Campaigns

A list of current environmental and transport-related campaigns

Campaign for Better Transport

An advocacy research and campaign group that promotes better bus and rail services. It carries out research and publishes respected reports. It runs a number of sector-specific campaigns for supportive policies and for less expenditure on road building.

Founded in 1974 as Transport 2000, it changed its name in 2007 and refocussed its campaigns. It has high-profile trustees and is financially supported by bus and rail operators, councils, the Department for Transport and unions. www.bettertransport.org.uk

Climate Emergency UK

A group that campaigns to have a Climate Emergency declared by local and national governments. Its website lists which bodies that have declared a climate emergency, along with details of their action plans. www.climateemergency.uk

Go Ultra Low

A joint government and car industry campaign, supported by the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and the government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

It partners with vehicle manufacturers, energy providers and chargepoint manufacturers to provide information about switching to an electric vehicle. All recipients of the plug-in car grant are automatically enrolled into Go Ultra Low. www.goultralow.com

Greener Journeys

Funded by the public and private sectors, it undertakes research into the social, economic and environmental benefits of public transport and campaigns to make sure that those benefits are realised.

It works in partnership with central Government, Sub-National Transport Bodies, Local Enterprise Partnerships, local government, industry and the wider transport sector to encourage investment that will facilitate inclusive and sustainable economic growth. It presents evidence to Government and Parliament, builds partnerships and runs modal switch campaigns.  www.greenerjourneys.com

It’s Everyone’s Journey

A Department for Transport-led public campaign created in October 2019 to champion equal access on public transport.

It has been developed by the Department for Transport in partnership with industry, disability groups and disabled people. The campaign forms part of the Government’sInclusive Transport Strategy, published in July 2018.   www.everyonesjourney.campaign.gov.uk

Moving Forward Together

A bus industry campaign, led by the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) whose strategy document sets out how the UK can get 1bn more bus journeys by 2030.  www.movingforwardtogether.uk

Think!

The UK government’s designated road safety campaign.

Started in 2000, it replaced road safety campaigns previously run by the Central Office of Information (COI) and its campaigns challenge dangerous behaviours on Britain’s roads. In the decade that followed the start of THINK!, UK road deaths reduced by 46%. www.think.gov.uk
